Brighton Legacy Foundation Funding Policies & Procedures for Outside Agencies, City of Brighton Colorado Sponsored Groups, and Scholarships

The Brighton Legacy Foundation accepts funding requests for three categories of funding—Outside Agencies, Youth Organizations, and City of Brighton Sponsored Organizations. Each category has its own specific policies and procedures. Please be sure to review these policies prior to completing your funding request to ensure your request falls within the acceptable parameters set forth.


Outside Agencies

The Brighton Legacy Foundation “improves the quality of life in the Brighton area by making grants to projects and causes that address both the needs and the opportunities in the community…”.

With that statement in mind, the Brighton Legacy Foundation will provide grant funding for Outside Agencies. The following guidelines will be used by the Foundation as funding requests are reviewed.

Criteria—The Organization will:

  1. Serve a demonstrated need within the community
  2. Provide a reasonable request
  3. Provide a social, cultural, youth or educational service to the community

Eligibility—The Organization will:

  1. Operate as a non-profit organization
  2. Operate on a non-discriminatory basis in employment, recruitment of volunteers, and delivery of services
  3. Demonstrate an effective program performance and financial responsibility and accountability via annual reports
  4. Operate within the geographic confines of the Brighton community or operate from referrals by City agency if outside the geographical confines

Guidelines

  1. A Request for Funding application must be completed (see separate application document)
  2. The organization must provide a direct line of support for Brighton residents or provide benefits or a needed service to the Brighton community
  3. Any new agency requests and any one-time requests must present the request to the Legacy Foundation Board of Directors
  4. A follow-up report will be provided to the Foundation before October 31 of the funding year
  5. Unused grant funds will be returned to the Foundation within one calendar year from the date the grant funds are received
  6. A one-time start up contribution for recreational equipment and uniforms will be considered

Limitations

The Brighton Legacy Foundation will NOT APPROVE funding for the following:

  1. Church and faith based requests, except food banks that will be serving all people in the Brighton area regardless of their faith orientation
  2. City of Brighton sponsored groups that do not show proof of matching funds
  3. Brighton Chamber of Commerce sponsored events/organizations
  4. Adult recreation programs or teams
  5. Capital expenses which include building, equipment, vehicles
  6. Administrative costs

Requests for Unallocated Funding

  1. Any request made for the unallocated funds shall provide a presentation to the Board
  2. Unallocated funding requests shall submit an application for those funds
  3. Funding will be granted based on the funds available
  4. Requests shall be for one time only—any duplication of requests needs to be made during the Outside Agency Funding Request time frame.

City of Brighton Sponsored Groups

The Brighton Legacy Foundation “improves the quality of life in the Brighton area by making grants to projects and causes that address both the needs and the opportunities in the community…”.

With that statement in mind, the Brighton Legacy Foundation may provide funding for City of Brighton Sponsored Groups that provide social, cultural, or educational services to the community.

The following guidelines will be used by the Brighton Legacy Foundation Board of Directors as funding requests are reviewed.

Eligibility

  1. The organization must operate within the geographic confines of the Brighton community or within the 27J School District.
  2. The organization must show proof of matching funds in the amount equal to that being requested from the Brighton Legacy Foundation prior to the release of the Foundation’s funding.

Guidelines:

  1. A Request for Funding application must be completed (see separate application document).
  2. The organization must provide a direct line of support for Brighton residents or provide benefits or a needed service to the Brighton community.
  3. A representative of the organization will present the request to the Brighton Legacy Foundation Board of Directors at its regular monthly business meeting.
  4. A follow-up report will be provided to the Foundation within 30 days after project/event has been completed. The follow-up report form which will need to be completed will be included with the check mailing.
  5. Unused grant funds will be returned to the Foundation within one calendar year from the date grant funds are received.
  6. A one-time start up contribution for recreational equipment and/or uniforms will be considered.

Limitations

The Brighton Legacy Foundation will NOT APPROVE funding for the following:

  1. Church and faith-based requests, except for food pantries
  2. City of Brighton sponsored organizations that do not show proof of matching funds.
  3. Brighton Chamber of Commerce sponsored events/organizations
  4. Adult recreation programs or teams
  5. Capital expenditures such as building, vehicles, and equipment
  6. Administrative costs

School District 27J Graduate Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Applicant must reside within School District 27J
  2. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  3. Applicant must be accepted at a college, university, technical, or vocational school
  4. Applicant may not be a relative of a member of the Legacy Foundation Board of Directors

Continuing Education Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must be enrolled in an instate community college, university or technical school
  • Applicant must have completed at least one semester of college
  • Applicant must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
  • Applicant must be a resident of Brighton, CO
  • Applicant may not be a relative of a member of the Legacy Foundation Board of Directors
